Main Ingredients
  • 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed Fresh sweet potatoes are recommended.
  • 1/2 cup white sugar Adjust according to sweetness preference.
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature preferred.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt
Topping Ingredients
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or mini marshmallows Optional topping.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large pot, boil the sweet potatoes until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and let cool slightly.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, mash the sweet potatoes until smooth.
  4. Add sugar, milk, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until well blended.
  5. Pour the sweet potato mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
Topping
  1. In another bowl, combine brown sugar, flour, and softened butter to create a crumbly topping. Fold in the pecans or marshmallows if desired.
  2. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the sweet potato filling.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.
  2. Let it cool slightly before serving, and enjoy!

Notes

For exceptional Sweet Potato Casserole, use fresh sweet potatoes, adjust sweetness to preference, and experiment with toppings. Don't overmix the sweet potato mixture to maintain texture.
