Ingredients

Batter Ingredients
  • 1 cup chickpea flour
  • 1 cup plant-based milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • to taste Salt and pepper
Coating & Frying
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs
  • as needed Cooking oil for frying

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, combine chickpea flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Gradually whisk in the plant-based milk until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps.
  2. Take your pieces for frying (such as tofu or seitan) and dip them into the batter, ensuring they’re fully coated.
  3. Transfer the batter-coated pieces into a bowl of breadcrumbs. Coat thoroughly to achieve that signature crunch.
  4. In a frying pan, heat cooking oil over medium heat. You’ll want enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan.
Cooking
  1. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the coated pieces in the pan. Fry until golden brown on each side, which will take about 3-4 minutes per side.
  2. Let the fried pieces drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Serving
  1. Enjoy your Vegan Fried Chicken hot, perhaps with a side dipping sauce or your favorite toppings.

Notes

For perfect Vegan Fried Chicken, experiment with spices like cayenne pepper or smoked paprika for an added flavor kick. For gluten-free, swap chickpea flour with a gluten-free flour blend. Fry in small batches and ensure the oil is hot enough for a crispy coating.
