Preparation
- Line your baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- In a bowl, sift together the almond flour and powdered sugar.
- In a clean bowl, whip the egg whites until frothy, then gradually add granulated sugar until stiff peaks form (about 5-7 minutes).
- Gently fold the almond flour and powdered sugar mixture into the egg whites.
- Add the vanilla extract and food coloring, folding until just combined.
- Transfer the batter into a piping bag fitted with a round tip and pipe small rounds on the prepared baking sheet.
- Sprinkle with joy by adding sprinkles on top of the piped rounds, then let them sit to develop a skin.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 285°F (140°C) and bake the macarons for 15-20 minutes, until firm to the touch.
- Let them cool completely before gently removing from the parchment paper and fill with your desired filling or vanilla buttercream.
Serving
- Serve immediately or allow to rest in the refrigerator for enhanced flavor.
Notes
These macarons can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or frozen for up to three months. Thaw in the refrigerator for several hours before enjoying.
