Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour A crucial base for the biscuits.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder To help them rise and fluff up beautifully.
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda Works in tandem with the buttermilk for that perfect rise.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances the flavor.
Wet Ingredients
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (cold) The key to achieving that flaky goodness.
  • ¾ cup buttermilk Adds moisture and a tangy flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the cold butter into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the buttermilk and stir gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing; a few lumps are okay.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently fold it over itself a few times, then pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick.
  6. Use a floured biscuit cutter (or even a glass) to cut out biscuits, placing them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  8. Allow the biscuits to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy with your favorite spreads or alongside a hearty dish.

Notes

Use cold ingredients and avoid overworking the dough for maximum flakiness. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
