Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound Ground beef (preferably Halal)
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded (or your favorite cheese)
  • 1 small Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • ½ cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg To bind the mixture
  • Salt and pepper To taste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil For sautéing
  • Fresh parsley For garnish (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and minced garlic, sautéing them until they turn transparent and fragrant (about 3-5 minutes).
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, sautéed onion and garlic, breadcrumbs, shredded cheese, egg, salt, pepper, and oregano. Mix until everything is thoroughly combined.
  4. On a sheet of parchment paper, shape the meat mixture into a large rectangle, about 1 inch thick.
  5. Carefully roll the meat from one end to the other, using the parchment paper to help you. Pinch the ends tightly to seal the roll.
Cooking
  1. Place the roll seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 45 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  2. After taking it out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes. Slice, garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot!

Notes

For lighter versions, swap out ground beef for ground chicken or turkey. Ensure any alternative meat is Halal. Use the egg to keep the mixture moist, and consider adding broth if the mixture feels dry. Experiment with different cheeses and spices for various flavors. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
