Ingredients

Apple Filling
  • 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (to enhance the apple flavor)
Crumble Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup oats (old-fashioned or quick oats)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for that rich, caramel taste)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened to room temperature)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (to balance flavors)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for that lovely warmth.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss well to coat the apples evenly.
Making the Topping
  1. In another bowl, mix the flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in the softened butter using a fork or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Assembling and Baking
  1. Spread the apple mixture evenly in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the crumble topping generously over the apples.
  2. Place the baking dish in your preheated oven and bake for 30-45 minutes, or until the apples are bubbling and the topping is golden brown.
Serving
  1. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream!

Notes

To ensure your topping remains crispy, bake the crumble uncovered. For a lighter version, swap half the butter for Greek yogurt or use coconut oil instead.
