Preparation
- Start by greasing an 8-inch square baking dish with a little butter or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter. Stir regularly until everything is melted and smooth, about 5-7 minutes.
- Once melted, remove from heat and mix in the vanilla extract. If you’re using nuts, fold them in now.
- Transfer the fudgy mixture into the prepared baking dish and use a spatula to spread it evenly.
- Allow the fudge to cool at room temperature for several hours or refrigerate for a quicker set, usually about 2 hours.
- Once completely set, cut into squares and enjoy your homemade Toll House Famous Fudge!
Notes
Store your fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or refrigerate for about two weeks. For long-term storage, freeze portions wrapped in plastic wrap and then foil for up to 3 months. Reheat individual squares in the microwave for 10-15 seconds if desired.
