Ingredients

Cupcake Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour For the cupcake base
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder For rising
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure it's softened for easy mixing
  • 1 cup sugar For sweetness
  • 5 large eggs At room temperature for best results
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup whole milk
Milk Soak Ingredients
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with paper liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  4. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the whole milk. Begin and end with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared liners, filling each about 2/3 full.
Baking
  1. Place in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Soaking
  1. While the cupcakes cool, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and heavy cream in a bowl.
  2. Once the cupcakes are cool, carefully pierce the tops with a fork and pour the milk mixture over each cupcake, allowing it to soak in.
  3. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to let the flavors meld.

Notes

For a dairy-free version, use almond or soy milk instead. Allow enough time for soaking to enhance flavor. Avoid overmixing the batter to keep cupcakes airy.
