Preparation
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Make sure everything is combined thoroughly.
- In a separate bowl, combine warm water and milk. Add the melted butter and the egg to the mixture, whisking well.
- Pour the wet mixture into the flour mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until it forms a shaggy dough.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead it for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm area until it doubles in size (about 1 hour).
- Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a round bun and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cover the buns again and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- While the buns rise, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Let them cool before serving.
Notes
For whole wheat flour, substitute 1 cup of all-purpose flour for a nuttier flavor. Allow the dough to fully rise for best results. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes.
