Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 packet instant yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 cup warm water Should be warm, not hot.
  • 1/2 cup milk Should be warm, not hot.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Make sure everything is combined thoroughly.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine warm water and milk. Add the melted butter and the egg to the mixture, whisking well.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the flour mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until it forms a shaggy dough.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead it for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm area until it doubles in size (about 1 hour).
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a round bun and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Cover the buns again and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. While the buns rise, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Let them cool before serving.

Notes

For whole wheat flour, substitute 1 cup of all-purpose flour for a nuttier flavor. Allow the dough to fully rise for best results. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes.
