Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Mix until well coated.
- Place one pie crust in a 9-inch pie pan, pressing it to fit.
- Pour the apple mixture into the crust and drizzle caramel sauce over the apples.
- Dot the filling with small pieces of butter.
- Cover the pie with the second crust, crimping the edges to seal. Make slits in the crust for steam to escape.
- Beat the egg and brush it over the top crust. Sprinkle with coarse sugar.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the crust is golden brown.
- Allow to cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
Notes
For best results, choose the right apples and allow the pie to cool adequately to set the filling. Serve with whipped cream or extra caramel.
