- Start by cutting your pineapple into small chunks and set them aside.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, pineapple juice, rice vinegar, soy sauce, chili flakes, garlic powder, and grated ginger (if using). Mix well.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir until the sugar completely dissolves (about 3-5 minutes).
- Once the mixture is boiling, add in the pineapple chunks and continue to cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Lower the heat and let it simmer for another 5 minutes until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool before using it.
Notes
If you have any leftover sauce, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for up to three months. Reheat over low heat in a saucepan.
