Ingredients

For the Apple Base
  • 4 large apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and sliced Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for best flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice Prevents browning of apples.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the Topping
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 2 cup almond flour Can be substituted with any flour of choice.
  • 1 4 cup butter or coconut oil, melted Use coconut oil for a dairy-free option.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 4 cup maple syrup or stevia (or your preferred sugar substitute) Adjust sweetness according to preference.
  • 1 4 teaspoon salt

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s nice and hot when your crisp is ready to bake.
  2. In a large bowl, toss your sliced apples with lemon juice and cinnamon to coat them evenly.
  3. In another bowl, combine rolled oats, almond flour, melted butter (or coconut oil), maple syrup (or your sweetener), and salt. Mix until you have a crumbly mixture.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Spread the coated apples evenly in a baking dish. Sprinkle the oat topping generously over the apples.
  2. Place your dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
Serving
  1. Allow it to cool slightly before serving. It pairs wonderfully with a dollop of Greek yogurt or a scoop of sugar-free ice cream.

Notes

To avoid sogginess, consider lightly pre-cooking the apples to release excess moisture before baking. This recipe can be easily halved or doubled based on your needs. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
