  • 2 cups grated apples Ensure to grate finely for best texture.
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup almond butter Peanut butter can be used as a substitute.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup walnuts or pecans Optional, fold in last.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the grated apples, applesauce, almond butter, and vanilla extract. Mix well until all the ingredients are incorporated.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the whole wheat flour, cinnamon, salt, and baking powder.
  4. Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet mixture, stirring gently until well combined. If you’re using nuts, fold them in last.
  5. Line an 8×8-inch baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared dish, spreading it evenly.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the brownies to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about a week or freeze for up to three months. Reheat in the microwave for a fresh taste.
