For the Dough Base
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Ensure it's Halal-compliant.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes Use cold to achieve flaky texture.
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Topping
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced Ensure they're ripe for best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar For dusting.
  • to taste whipped cream For serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
  3. Add the cold butter cubes and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the milk and vanilla extract. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking dish and layer the sliced strawberries on top.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with whipped cream.

Notes

Store leftover bars in an airtight container for 3-4 days in the refrigerator. They can be frozen for up to two months.
