  • 1 box vanilla cake mix plus required ingredients as per package (typically eggs, water, and oil)
Strawberry Mixture
  • 4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
Cream Layer
  • 2 cups heavy whipped cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Preparation of Cake Layers
  1. Preheat your oven as directed on the cake mix box. Prepare two round cake pans by greasing them lightly.
  2. Follow the instructions on the cake mix box to mix the cake batter. Pour evenly into the prepared pans.
  3. Bake for the time indicated on the box or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool completely.
Prepare Strawberry Mixture
  1. While the cake cools, mix your sliced strawberries with granulated sugar in a bowl. Allow this to sit for at least 15-20 minutes until the strawberries release their juices.
Whip the Cream
  1. In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer to whip the heavy cream. Start at a low speed, gradually increasing, until soft peaks form.
  2. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to whip until medium peaks form.
Assemble the Cake
  1. Once the cake layers are cool, cut each layer in half horizontally to create four layers.
  2. In a large bowl or punch bowl, start layering your cake: place the first layer down, followed by a layer of strawberries (with juices), then a layer of whipped cream.
  3. Repeat this process until all layers are used, finishing with whipped cream on top.
Garnish and Serve
  1. Decorate with any remaining strawberries on top for an elegant touch.
