Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Mix them well to ensure even distribution.
- In a separate bowl, mix the milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and egg until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture, stirring until a dough begins to form.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
- Once risen, roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle. Spread the cherry filling evenly over the dough and sprinkle with cinnamon.
- Starting from the long side, carefully roll the dough into a log shape. Slice into 1-inch pieces and place in a greased baking dish.
- Cover the rolls and let them rise again for 20 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the rolls bake, mix the powdered sugar with 1 tablespoon of milk until smooth.
- Once out of the oven, drizzle the icing generously over the warm rolls. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
Substitutions: You can swap out the cherry filling for another fruit filling, such as blueberry or apple. Proper measuring of flour and allowing for rising time will help create fluffy rolls. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
