Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add a splash of oil, and sear the beef chunks until browned on all sides. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until they are translucent.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir for about a minute to cook out the raw taste. Gradually whisk in the beef broth and heavy cream, then add garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Bring to a gentle simmer until slightly thickened.
- In a baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by the seared beef and half of the gravy. Then layer the remaining potatoes and top with the rest of the gravy.
Baking
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil, sprinkle cheese on top (if desired), and bake for an additional 15 minutes until bubbling and golden.
Serving
- Once baked, let it cool for a few minutes before sprinkling with fresh parsley. Serve warm and enjoy.
Notes
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze for up to a month. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
