Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef Use your preferred beef cut
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning
  • 1 cup lettuce, chopped Provides a crunchy base
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes For freshness
  • 1/2 cup pickles, sliced
  • 1/2 cup diced onions Adds flavor
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese Your choice of cheese
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise or burger sauce For dressing
  • optional Buns For a traditional burger feel

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add your ground beef. Season generously with salt and pepper. Allow it to cook until browned, about 5 minutes.
  2. Using a spatula, press the beef down flat to create a crispy surface (hence the “smash”!). Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until crispy and caramelized.
  3. While the beef is cooking, prepare your bowl ingredients. Start with a generous base of chopped lettuce.
  4. Once your beef is done, add it on top of the lettuce. Then layer in diced tomatoes, pickles, onions, and shredded cheese.
  5. Drizzle the mayonnaise or burger sauce over the top. If you’re feeling fancy, you can use a squeeze bottle for extra flair.
  6. Serve and enjoy! This dish is best enjoyed immediately, but it can easily be refrigerated for later.

Notes

If you'd like a healthier alternative, try ground turkey or plant-based options. Don't overcrowd the pan for perfect caramelization.
