Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 pounds ripe plums, pitted and chopped Make sure to pick ripe plums for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Adjust to your sweetness preference.
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by washing your plums thoroughly. Cut them in half, remove the pits, and chop them into smaller pieces. You can leave the skin on for added texture and nutrients.
  2. Add the chopped plums to your slow cooker. Then, sprinkle in the sugar, lemon juice, and ground cinnamon. Stir well to combine all the flavors.
Cooking
  1. Cover your slow cooker and set it on low for 6 to 8 hours.
  2. Once the cooking time is up, remove the lid and let it cool slightly. Use an immersion blender (or a standard blender in batches) to puree the mixture until smooth or leave it chunky if you prefer a more textured butter.
Storage
  1. After blending, allow the plum butter to cool completely. Transfer it into sterilized jars or airtight containers for storage.

Notes

You can swap the sugar for coconut sugar or a natural sweetener like maple syrup for a healthier twist. Keep an eye on the last hour of cooking to ensure it doesn’t over-thicken. If it does, you can add a splash of water. Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to two weeks or freeze for up to six months.
