  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey for a lighter option) Can substitute with ground turkey or lentils.
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns Toast before serving.

  • 1 green bell pepper diced

Cooking
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onions and diced bell pepper for about 5 minutes until they soften.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until thoroughly browned, breaking it into smaller pieces as it cooks. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the ketchup, soy sauce, brown sugar, and mustard. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. Scoop the Sloppy Joe mixture onto toasted hamburger buns. Add your favorite toppings, and dig in!

Notes

Pair with crispy potato wedges, coleslaw, corn on the cob, or mixed fruit salad. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet or microwave.
