Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a small bowl, combine butter, sugar, and brown sugar. Mix until creamy.
- Stir in vanilla extract and egg yolk until well combined.
- Fold in all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt until no dry pockets remain.
- Add chocolate chips and mix until evenly distributed.
- Scoop the dough onto a lined baking sheet and shape into a ball, slightly flattening it.
Baking
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are set but the center looks slightly undercooked.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the baking tray for a couple of minutes before enjoying warm.
Notes
For substitutions, use all white sugar if you don't have brown sugar, or swap all-purpose flour for a gluten-free blend. Watch baking time closely to prevent over-baking. For a gooier center, consider underbaking by a minute or two. Store in an airtight container for up to two days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
