Ingredients

Meat Sauce Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey or chicken.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Pasta Ingredients
  • 8 ounces pasta of choice Any type of pasta works well.
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional) For serving.

Method

Cooking the Pasta
  1. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add your choice of pasta and cook according to the package directions until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
Sautéing the Aromatics
  1. While the pasta cooks, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until soft and translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Cooking the Beef
  1. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, making sure it’s no longer pink.
Making the Sauce
  1. Incorporate the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper into the skillet. Stir until combined and let it simmer for 10 minutes. If the sauce seems too thick, you can add a splash of water.
Combining and Serving
  1. Toss the cooked pasta in the skillet with the meat sauce, ensuring it’s well coated. Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days, or frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat on low heat, adding a splash of water if too thick.
