Ingredients

For the marinade
  • 4 tablespoons Soy sauce Low-sodium if preferred
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 lime Juice from 1 lime
For cooking the tuna
  • 2 pieces Tuna steaks, about 6 ounces each Fresh or frozen
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame oil For cooking
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame seeds, toasted For garnish
  • 2 stalks Green onions, sliced For garnish
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, minced ginger, minced garlic, and lime juice to create the marinade.
  2. Place the tuna steaks in the marinade and allow them to sit for about 10-15 minutes to soak up the flavors.
Cooking
  1. In a skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of sesame oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  2. Remove the tuna from the marinade (saving the marinade for later) and sear the tuna steaks in the hot skillet for about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  3. Pour the saved marinade over the tuna in the last minute of cooking.
Garnishing and Serving
  1. Transfer the cooked tuna steaks to a plate and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
  2. Pair with a fresh salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes

For best results, use fresh tuna and do not skip the marinating step. Ensure your skillet is hot for a good sear.
