Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces Ensure to use halal chicken.
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch For coating the chicken.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For frying.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced For added flavor.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey Can be substituted with maple syrup for a vegan version.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds For garnish.
  • 2 green onions chopped For garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, toss the bite-sized chicken pieces with cornstarch until well-coated.
  2. In a large skillet or wok, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
Cooking
  1. Once the oil is hot, add the chicken in a single layer. Cook for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, stirring frequently.
  2. When the chicken is cooked, add in the minced garlic and stir for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, and rice vinegar. Pour this mixture over the chicken and let it simmer for a few minutes, stirring to coat evenly.
  4. Sprinkle the sesame seeds over the chicken, stirring gently to combine. Top with chopped green onions.
  5. Serve your Sesame Chicken with steamed rice or fried rice.

Notes

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. This dish can also be frozen for up to 3 months. Reheat in a skillet on low-medium heat for about 5-10 minutes.
