Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 pieces cube steaks (about 1/2 inch thick)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (for coating)
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 medium onion (sliced)
  • 2 cups beef broth or stock
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Lightly season the cube steaks with salt and pepper, then coat them in flour.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
Cooking
  1. Add the coated cube steaks to the skillet and fry them for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Once done, remove the steaks and set them aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add sliced onions and sauté until they are soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir well to combine and scrape up any fond from the bottom of the pan.
  4. Return the browned cube steaks to the skillet. Cover and let them simmer in the gravy for about 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through and tender.
  5. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.

Notes

Don’t skip browning the steak for flavor. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the steak reaches an internal temperature of at least 145°F. Feel free to add fresh herbs for extra flavor.
