Ingredients

For the Beef Filling
  • 1 lb ground beef (ensure it’s Halal-certified) You can substitute it with ground chicken, turkey, or plant-based options.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing the onion.
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For Serving
  • 8 small soft tortillas (flour or corn) Use your preferred type.
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped For garnish.
  • Lime wedges For serving.
  • Additional toppings: diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, sliced jalapeños, or diced avocado Choose according to preference.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 2-3 minutes until it’s soft and translucent.
  2. Add the minced garlic and continue cooking for an additional minute.
Cooking the Beef
  1. Toss the ground beef into the skillet. Break it apart with a wooden spoon and cook until it’s browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Sprinkle in the chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well to ensure the spices coat the beef evenly and let the mixture simmer for about 3 minutes.
Assembling the Tacos
  1. Warm the tortillas in a separate pan or microwave until they’re soft and pliable.
  2. Start with a tortilla, then add a generous scoop of the beef mixture. Top it with your choice of diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, sliced jalapeños, diced avocado, and a squeeze of fresh lime.
  3. Finish with freshly chopped cilantro and lime wedges on the side.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat beef on the stovetop, and warm tortillas separately. Enjoy your tacos freshly prepared and hot!
