Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- If using fresh green beans, trim the ends and blanch them in boiling water for about 5 minutes until slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
Making the Sauce
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Stir until well blended.
Assembly
- Add the green beans to the sauce mixture and stir until evenly coated. If using, fold in the grated cheddar cheese.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading out evenly.
- Sprinkle the crispy fried onions generously over the top.
Baking
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
Serving
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving warm.
Notes
Leftover casserole can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or frozen for up to two months. Reheat in the oven at 350°F until heated through, about 20 minutes.
