  • 4 cups fresh or frozen green beans Trimmed and blanched if using fresh beans.
  • 1 cup cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese Optional for extra cheesiness.
  • 1 cup crispy fried onions For the topping.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. If using fresh green beans, trim the ends and blanch them in boiling water for about 5 minutes until slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
Making the Sauce
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, and black pepper. Stir until well blended.
Assembly
  1. Add the green beans to the sauce mixture and stir until evenly coated. If using, fold in the grated cheddar cheese.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading out evenly.
  3. Sprinkle the crispy fried onions generously over the top.
Baking
  1. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until bubbly and the topping is golden brown.
Serving
  1. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

Leftover casserole can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or frozen for up to two months. Reheat in the oven at 350°F until heated through, about 20 minutes.
