Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, crumbled sausage, and shredded cheddar cheese. Season with salt and pepper, and mix until well blended.
- On a lightly floured surface, unroll the refrigerated pie crusts and gently flatten them using a rolling pin.
- Cut the pie crust into rectangular or square pieces, about 4x6 inches.
Assembly
- Place a generous spoonful of the filling on half of your cut crusts, leaving space around the edges for sealing.
- Brush the edges with the beaten egg, then place another piece of dough on top. Press down the edges with a fork to seal.
- Brush the tops of the pop tarts with the remaining beaten egg for a golden crust.
Baking
- Place the pop tarts on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For perfect results, avoid overfilling the pastries. If using a different filling, ensure it remains halal-friendly. Can be made ahead of time or frozen before baking.
