Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Arrange the Saltine crackers in a single layer across the baking sheet.
Making the Caramel
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Once melted, add brown sugar, stirring continuously until it reaches a gentle boil.
- Allow the mixture to bubble for about 3 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
Baking
- Pour the caramel mixture over the arranged Saltine crackers and spread it evenly.
- Bake for about 5 to 7 minutes until the caramel is bubbly and golden, but not burnt.
- Remove from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot caramel.
- Let the chocolate sit for a couple of minutes to melt, then spread it gently with a spatula.
- If using, sprinkle optional toppings evenly over the melted chocolate.
Cooling and Serving
- Allow the Saltine Cracker Candy to cool at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
- Once set, break into pieces and enjoy!
Notes
To maintain texture, store in an airtight container at room temperature. It lasts about a week and can be frozen for up to a month.
