Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup imitation crab meat, finely chopped
  • 2 each green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce (ensure it’s halal-friendly)
  • 1 package wonton wrappers
  • Oil for frying Sufficient amount to submerge the wontons
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, chopped imitation crab meat, green onions, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Lay out a clean surface and place a small bowl of water nearby for sealing the wonton wrappers.
  3. Take one wonton wrapper, place about one teaspoon of filling in the center. Moisten the edges with water, fold, and press to seal tightly.
Cooking
  1. In a deep skillet or pot, heat enough oil over medium heat to submerge the wontons.
  2. Carefully place a few wontons in the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove and place on a paper towel to drain.
Serving
  1. Serve your delicious crab rangoon warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Ensure wonton wrappers are sealed well to prevent leaks when frying. Fry at the right oil temperature (around 350°F). Experiment with filling variations, like adding diced bell peppers or jalapeños. Can freeze uncooked for later frying.
