Ingredients

Brownie Ingredients
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
Frosting
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened (for frosting)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, and melted butter until creamy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  6. Fold in red food coloring until batter is evenly colored.
  7. Pour batter into prepared baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Once baked, let the brownies cool in the pan.
  9. To prepare frosting, beat softened cream cheese until smooth and spread on cooled brownies.

Notes

To keep brownies fudgy, avoid overmixing the batter. Use fresh baking powder and baking soda for best results. Enhance cream cheese frosting with lemon zest for additional flavor.
