Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
For Brushing
  • to taste Butter or ghee for brushing on cooked naan

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt until well combined.
  2. Create a small well in the center of the flour mixture and add the warm water, yogurt, and olive oil. Mix with a spatula until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticking too much, sprinkle a little extra flour as necessary.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
Cooking
  1. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into an oval or circle, about 1/4-inch thick.
  2. Heat a cast-iron skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the naan in the skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes on the other side.
  3. Remove the naan from the skillet and brush with melted butter or ghee. Repeat with the remaining dough.
  4. Enjoy your naan warm, and feel free to add your favorite toppings or serve it as a perfect accompaniment to your meals!

Notes

Adjust flour based on humidity and consider using sour cream or buttermilk as a yogurt substitute. Ensure sufficient rising time for fluffy texture.
