Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt until well combined.
- Create a small well in the center of the flour mixture and add the warm water, yogurt, and olive oil. Mix with a spatula until a sticky dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticking too much, sprinkle a little extra flour as necessary.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
Cooking
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into an oval or circle, about 1/4-inch thick.
- Heat a cast-iron skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the naan in the skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes on the other side.
- Remove the naan from the skillet and brush with melted butter or ghee. Repeat with the remaining dough.
- Enjoy your naan warm, and feel free to add your favorite toppings or serve it as a perfect accompaniment to your meals!
Notes
Adjust flour based on humidity and consider using sour cream or buttermilk as a yogurt substitute. Ensure sufficient rising time for fluffy texture.
