Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 large egg
Filling Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
Frosting Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix in melted butter, sugar, pumpkin puree, and the egg until well combined.
Making the Dough
  1. Gradually add in flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Mix until the dough forms a ball.
  2. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Rising
  1. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes until it doubles in size.
Rolling and Shaping
  1. Punch down the risen dough and turn it onto a floured surface. Roll it out into a rectangle, approximately 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Spread softened butter on the rectangle, followed by brown sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg.
  3. Roll the dough tightly from the long end to form a log. Cut it into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
Final Rise and Baking
  1. Cover the rolls and let them rise again for about 20-30 minutes, until puffy.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and bake the rolls for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Frosting
  1. While the rolls bake, whip together powdered sugar, coffee, and maple syrup in a bowl until smooth.
  2. Once the rolls are baked, let them cool slightly and drizzle the coffee maple frosting over the warm rolls before serving.

Notes

For a nutty flavor, use almond milk instead of regular milk. Coconut oil can be used for a dairy-free version. Ensure the dough rises in a warm and draft-free area. Measure flour correctly to avoid dry dough.
