Preparation
- If you’re using store-bought pretzel dough, follow package instructions. If you’re making it at home, knead your dough until it’s smooth and elastic, then let it rise for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). This will ensure your pretzel dogs come out perfectly golden.
Assembly
- Roll out your pretzel dough into long strips. Each strip should be wide enough to fully wrap around a hot dog.
- Place a hot dog at one end of the pretzel strip and roll it tightly, ensuring it’s fully covered. Pinch the ends of the dough to seal it.
- In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it onto each wrapped hot dog.
Cooking
- In a large pot, bring about 4 cups of water to a boil and add the baking soda.
- Carefully place two or three wrapped hot dogs into the boiling water for about 30 seconds. This helps in achieving that chewy texture.
- Transfer the boiled dogs onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle coarse salt on top for added flavor.
- Bake in your preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Serving
- Once baked, let them cool for a few minutes, then serve with your favorite dipping sauces.
Notes
Store leftover Pretzel Dogs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to a month. Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes for best results.
