Ingredients

Filling
  • 2 cups fresh plums, pitted and sliced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pastry
  • 1 package puff pastry (2 sheets)
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon milk for egg wash
  • Powdered sugar for dusting, optional

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine sliced plums, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Toss gently to coat and set aside.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut into squares or triangles.
  4. Spoon a generous amount of filling onto one half of each pastry piece.
  5. Fold the pastry over to create a pocket, press edges to seal, and cut small slits on top.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the egg and milk for an egg wash and brush over the top of each turnover.
Baking
  1. Place turnovers on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown and puffed.
  2. Let them cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar, if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

For substitutions, try using other seasonal fruits like apricots or peaches. Ensure pastries are well sealed to prevent leaks. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
