Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef (90% lean)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper green or red, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (halal-friendly)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a mix of provolone and mozzarella)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns or sub rolls
Optional Toppings
  • sautéed mushrooms
  • jalapeños
  • pickles

Method

Cooking
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the diced onions and bell peppers to the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes, until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Return the beef to the skillet. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well to combine.
  4. Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top of the beef mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid and allow the cheese to melt, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto the halved buns or rolls. Top with optional ingredients, such as mushrooms or pickles, and enjoy!

Notes

Feel free to substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option, or use plant-based meat for a vegetarian alternative. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
