Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef (e.g., ribeye or sirloin) Opt for tender cuts for best flavor.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 bell pepper thinly sliced (any color)
  • 1 cup mushrooms, optionally, thinly sliced Optional ingredient.
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or cheese of choice)
  • 4 hoagie rolls (or any preferred bread)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by slicing the beef, onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms (if using). The thinner the slices, the faster they will cook!
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. The pan should be hot but not smoking.
  3. Add the onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms to the skillet. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until they become tender and start to caramelize.
  4. Push the veggies to one side of the skillet and add the beef. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently until the meat is browned and fully cooked. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Once the beef is cooked, place a slice of provolone cheese over the mixture. Cover the pan with a lid and let it cook for an additional minute or until the cheese is melted.
  6. While the cheese melts, slice your hoagie rolls. You can toast them slightly in a separate pan if you prefer a crunchier texture!
  7. Spoon the beef and veggie mixture into the rolls, ensuring each one is generously filled with that gooey cheese goodness.
  8. Serve immediately with your favorite sides, and watch as everyone digs in!

Notes

Choose tender cuts of beef for best results. Pre-slice ingredients for a seamless cooking process. Consider adding toppings like jalapeños or avocado for extra flavor. To store leftovers, refrigerate in an airtight container for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in a skillet or microwave, adding moisture as needed.
