Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook until soft and brown, about 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning. Remove from heat and let cool.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcbs, shredded cheddar, minced garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and the cooled caramelized onions.
- Crack the egg into the mixture and season with salt and pepper. Mix everything by hand until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix!
- Transfer the mixture to a greased loaf pan or shape into a loaf and place it on a lined baking sheet. Brush the top with a little additional ketchup for extra flavor.
Cooking
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Let the meatloaf rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with your favorite sides!
Notes
Don’t overmix: Gently combine the ingredients until just mixed to ensure a tender texture. Experiment with cheeses: Try using mozzarella for a different flavor profile. Add some spice: If you enjoy a kick, mix in some crushed red pepper flakes or sriracha for a unique twist.
