Preparation
- Preheat your oven to its highest setting (around 475°F or 245°C) and place a pizza stone inside if you have one.
- If using homemade dough, roll it out on a floured surface to shape it into a 12-inch round. For store-bought, follow the package instructions.
- Spoon the tomato sauce onto the dough, spreading it evenly and leaving about a ½-inch edge.
- Distribute the sliced mozzarella evenly over the sauce.
- Drizzle olive oil over the pizza and sprinkle a pinch of salt.
Baking
- Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated oven or pizza stone and bake for about 10-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- Once out of the oven, scatter fresh basil leaves on top.
Serving
- Allow the pizza to cool slightly, then cut into slices and serve.
Notes
For best results, let the rolled-out dough rest for 10 minutes before adding toppings to avoid shrinkage. Consider experimenting with different cheeses or adding fresh herbs for extra flavor. To avoid a soggy crust, pre-bake the crust for a few minutes if necessary.
