Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the heavy cream, orange zest, fresh orange juice, and vanilla extract. Mix gently until the dough comes together, being careful not to over-mix.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times, just until it holds together. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick. Cut into wedges or use a round cutter.
Baking
- Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- Let the scones cool slightly before serving warm.
