Ingredients
  

For the Crostini
  • 1 baguette 1 baguette, sliced (about 12 slices)
  • 2 tablespoons 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Topping
  • 1 large 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup 1 cup figs, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (ensure it’s Halal-compliant)
  • to taste Salt and pepper to taste
  • to taste Goat cheese or cream cheese (optional)
  • for garnish Fresh herbs (such as thyme or rosemary)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Place your baguette slices on a baking sheet and brush each slice lightly with olive oil.
Baking
  1. Bake the bread in the preheated oven for about 7-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
Cooking Onions
  1. While the bread is baking, heat a skillet over medium heat, add a tablespoon of olive oil and the thinly sliced onion.
  2. Sauté the onions for approximately 15-20 minutes until caramelized.
Combining Toppings
  1. Once onions are caramelized, add the sliced figs and balsamic vinegar to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper, and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes.
Assembling Crostini
  1. Remove the bread from the oven and spoon the onion and fig mixture generously on top of each slice.
  2. Optionally spread goat cheese or cream cheese on the toasted bread before adding the topping.
Garnishing
  1. Sprinkle fresh herbs over the crostini for added color and aroma.
Serving
  1. Serve your delicious Onion and Fig Crostini warm and enjoy!

Notes

For substitutions, if out of figs, dates can be used. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes.
