Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 2 cups pretzels, broken into smaller pieces
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
Topping Ingredients
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional) For added texture
  • Sea salt To sprinkle on top

Method

Preparation
  1. Line an 8x8-inch pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang to make removal easier later.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the broken pretzels.
  3. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, then add the brown sugar. Stir continuously until the mixture comes to a boil. Let it boil for 2 minutes without stirring.
  4. Pour the melted butter mixture over the pretzels and stir until well combined. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom of your prepared tray.
  5. In a separate bowl, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
Layering
  1. Pour the melted chocolate over the pretzel base and spread it evenly. If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts on top for added texture.
  2. Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top for an extra flavor kick.
Chill and Serve
  1. Cover the tray and place it in the refrigerator for about 1 hour or until set.
  2. Once set, lift the bars out of the tray using the parchment overhang. Cut into squares and enjoy!

Notes

Store any leftover bars in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. For longer storage, freeze them for up to three months. Reheat gently in the microwave to avoid melting the chocolate too much.
