Casserole Ingredients
  • 10 slices slices of white bread (or preferred Halal bread, cubed) Ensure the bread is Halal-compliant.
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese Can substitute with provolone or cheddar if preferred.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (or plant-based alternative)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard Optional.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cube the slices of bread and set them aside in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add half of the shredded Swiss cheese and mozzarella cheese to the cubed bread, mixing well.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard (if using), garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the bread and cheese mixture, stirring gently until fully combined. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the mixture.
  6. Grease a baking dish (approximately 9x13 inches) and pour the bread mixture into it, spreading it out evenly.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top of the casserole.
  8. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  10. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving and garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

Feel free to mix different types of bread for a unique flavor. Spices such as paprika or Italian seasoning can enhance flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for later use.
