Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cube the slices of bread and set them aside in a large mixing bowl.
- Add half of the shredded Swiss cheese and mozzarella cheese to the cubed bread, mixing well.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard (if using), garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread and cheese mixture, stirring gently until fully combined. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the mixture.
- Grease a baking dish (approximately 9x13 inches) and pour the bread mixture into it, spreading it out evenly.
- Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top of the casserole.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let it rest for a few minutes before serving and garnish with fresh parsley.
Notes
Feel free to mix different types of bread for a unique flavor. Spices such as paprika or Italian seasoning can enhance flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for later use.
