Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 chicken thighs Make sure all ingredients are halal-certified for compliance.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Can substitute with coconut aminos or tamari for gluten-free.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Watch for burning during simmering.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 green onion, sliced (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by patting dry the chicken thighs with paper towels. This ensures a crispier skin once cooked.
  2. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, and ginger until well combined to create a flavorful marinade.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
Cooking
  1. Once the oil is hot, add the chicken thighs skin-side down. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  2. Carefully pour the prepared sauce over the chicken thighs. Reduce heat to medium-low, and let simmer for another 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through for even cooking.
  3. Once done, remove from skillet, garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, and serve hot.

Notes

Substitutions like chicken breasts or tofu can be used. Maintain a watchful eye during cooking to avoid burning the sugar. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days; can freeze for 2 months.
