Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is softened, not melted.
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk
Mix-ins
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  4. In a separate large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar with a mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Mix in the vanilla extract and egg yolk until well blended.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
  7. Gently fold in the mini chocolate chips into the cookie dough.
  8. Use a small cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  2. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results: Ensure your butter is softened but not melted; use a spoon to fill your measuring cup with flour and level it off; if the dough feels too soft, consider chilling it for 30 minutes before baking. Variations: Add chopped nuts, white chocolate chips, or dried fruits for twists.
