  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 piece egg
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Seasoning and Garnish
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • for garnish Fresh basil

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat, breaking the meat into small pieces. Once browned, add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Add marinara sauce to the meat mixture and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Layering and Baking
  1. Spread a layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Lay down four lasagna noodles, then add half of the ricotta mixture, a third of the mozzarella, and a third of the Parmesan.
  2. Repeat the layers: add another layer of meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and cheeses until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of meat sauce topped with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
  3. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  4. Allow the lasagna to rest for about 10-15 minutes before slicing.
Serving
  1. Garnish with fresh basil and serve warm.

Notes

For a lighter version, use ground turkey or chicken. Be careful not to overcook the noodles, as they will continue to cook in the oven.
