Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat, breaking the meat into small pieces. Once browned, add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add marinara sauce to the meat mixture and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Layering and Baking
- Spread a layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Lay down four lasagna noodles, then add half of the ricotta mixture, a third of the mozzarella, and a third of the Parmesan.
- Repeat the layers: add another layer of meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and cheeses until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of meat sauce topped with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Allow the lasagna to rest for about 10-15 minutes before slicing.
Serving
- Garnish with fresh basil and serve warm.
Notes
For a lighter version, use ground turkey or chicken. Be careful not to overcook the noodles, as they will continue to cook in the oven.
