  • 1 cup whole milk, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan or two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the whole milk, starting and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan(s) and smooth the top.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  2. Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature ingredients. To dress up the cake, consider adding powdered sugar, fresh berries, or whipped cream. Leftover cake can be sliced and frozen for quick desserts later.
