Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with ground chicken or turkey.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 pieces pita pockets
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 large cucumber, diced
  • 1 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1 4 fresh parsley, chopped
  • Tzatziki sauce (optional) For an extra layer of flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Gather all your ingredients. Dice the onion, mince the garlic, and chop the cucumber and parsley.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until it’s browned, typically about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease if needed.
  3. Stir in the cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper, cooking for an additional 2 minutes to let the flavors meld together.
Assembly
  1. Remove the skillet from heat. Open each pita pocket and stuff generously with the ground beef mixture.
  2. Load up your pita pockets with diced tomatoes, cucumbers, crumbled feta cheese, and fresh parsley. Drizzle tzatziki sauce on top if you’re feeling adventurous!
Serving
  1. Serve your Mediterranean wonder with a side of extra veggie sticks or a fresh salad.

Notes

If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze the cooked ground beef mixture for up to 2 months. Reheat the beef in a skillet or microwave, and toast the pita pockets to refresh their texture.
