Ingredients
  

For the Cookie Dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened At room temperature for easy mixing.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
  • 1 cup maraschino cherries, drained and chopped Chop before adding to dough.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, mixing well after each addition.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped maraschino cherries until evenly distributed.
Baking
  1. Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  3. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks.
