Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Maple Glaze
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup for the glaze

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground nutmeg. Whisk well.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; the batter should be thick and slightly lumpy.
  5. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and pour the batter into it, spreading evenly.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Glazing and Serving
  1. Prepare the maple glaze by stirring maple syrup in a bowl until smooth.
  2. After baking, cool bars in the pan for 10 minutes, then pour the glaze over the top.
  3. Allow to cool completely before slicing into squares and serving.

Notes

Don’t overmix the batter to keep the bars fluffy. Customize toppings as desired, like nuts or powdered sugar. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days.
